Fun Ideas for Covid-19 Era Weddings

If you’ve been a bride-to-be in 2020, you know just how much the wedding landscape has changed due to the global pandemic. With social distancing, guest restrictions and the ongoing legal changes, couples have had to get creative to proceed with their nuptials.

This time has been stressful for everyone, but engaged couples in particular have been under extreme pressure as they postpone, re-schedule and adjust their dreams for their big day. If you are in the planning process and wondering how you can make your Covid-19 era wedding special despite all of the challenges, here are some ideas that are both fun and safe to make your special day truly memorable.

Micro Weddings or Minimonies

Given the public gathering restrictions in many parts of the world, couples are turning to micro weddings or minimonies as a way of proceeding with their wedding. A minimony usually has a tiny guest list of less than 10 people consisting of immediate family members and close friends, while a micro wedding is a little larger with up to 50 guests. If you are keen on proceeding with your wedding but live in an area with gathering restrictions, having an intimate ceremony is a special way of celebrating your union.

Belated Bachelor and Bachelorette Parties

Covid-19 has meant that many bachelor and bachelorette parties have been off the table. Even if it’s technically allowed, do you really want to celebrate if you can’t hug your friends or hit the dancefloor? Instead of regretting your bachelor or bachelorette party experience, delay it! Let the gang know you will be doing something in the future, even if that happens to be after your wedding.

Change the Date Cards

While this idea is more polite than fun, ‘change the date’ cards have become very common and very important throughout 2020. With so many couples postponing their wedding, change the date cards have been an easy and courteous way to keep people informed. It’s also important to notify people with ‘unsave the date’ cards if you decide to scale down to a micro wedding or minimony.

Custom Face Masks

If your wedding is being held in an area that requires face masks, why not have some fun with it? Provide each guest with a custom face mask with your initials and wedding date on it. At the very least they’ll look less disjointed in the photos!

Creative Seating Arrangements

When mapping out seating arrangements for both the ceremony and reception, it’s important to consider social distancing measures. This might mean you have to think outside-of-the-box to make the seating work with your venue. If there was ever a time to get creative with seating arrangements, it’s now.

Table Service

To reduce the risks on your big day, offer table service to your guests. Movement is often one of the biggest concerns with Covid-19 so removing their need to travel back and forth to the bar or dining table will help to keep things safe.

Original Day Celebration

If you are one of the couples who have had to postpone their big day, don’t let your original date go unnoticed. We understand just how disappointing it is to be forced to change all of your plans, so having a special dinner with your significant other, family or bridal party can be a great way to acknowledge your original plans.

Latermoons

The current travel restrictions mean that many dream honeymoons are temporarily off the cards. If you’ve had your heart set on an overwater bungalow in the Maldives or the ultimate Amalfi Coast summer but can’t get there at the moment, why not delay your honeymoon? Latermoons are becoming extremely popular as they allow couples to have their dream honeymoon, just at a later date. It doesn’t mean you can’t have a mini-honeymoon closer to home in the meantime!

Having your wedding in the Covid-19 era is certainly not ideal, but there are many ways you can ensure you have the wedding day of your dreams while still keeping your guests safe.
